Hospitality Manager

The Fruit Company (TFC), Mount Hood Railroad (MHRR) and Webster Orchards (WO) are seeking a Hospitality Manager to oversee and enhance our Hospitality program.  We offer an exciting blend of venues that cater to the many tourists visiting the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and Hood River Valley.  Our current Hospitality offerings include:

  • Excursion Train – A seasonal-themed daily train running Wednesday through Saturday, beginning at Easter and lasting through the end of October.  Beginning in Mid-November, the Christmas season begins, and the train frequency gradually expands to multiple runs up to five days per week through the end of the year.  The excursion train themes throughout the year are as follows:
    • Easter Train
    • Spring Train (Blossoms & Buds)
    • Summer Train (A Taste of the Fruit Loop)
    • Fall Train (Autumn Harvest)
    • Halloween Train
    • Christmas Train
  • Fruit Valley Trolly – During July and August, The MHRR partners with Portland Gray Line Tours to offer an excursion train run / Orchard tour combination package.
  • Railbikes – During April through October, up to three daily trips of as many as 15 two-seater e-assisted “railbikes” ride the rails between the MHRR depot and TFC.
  • E-Bike Rentals – Tourists rent e-bikes for a two-hour block and self-tour the beautiful Hood River Valley.
  • Orchard Tours – Tourists ride through a pear orchard and learn about fruit husbandry.
  • Factory Tours – Tourists see how The Fruit Company employees create our tasty fruit and gourmet gifts.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop and implement strategic plans to drive growth within the Hospitality segment, including active management of social media content and placement.
  • Manage the Gift Store operations at TFC and MHRR.
  • Mentor the Hospitality and Gift Store employees, providing guidance and support to maximize employee engagement and performance.
  • Develop, document, and implement standard operating plans (SOPs) for hospitality services.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Operations, Marketing and Purchasing, to ensure the smooth integration of hospitality services within the other company segments.
  • Collaborate with the MHRR management and TFC Purchasing teams to schedule and procure supplies, decorations, and props.
  • Collaborate with the lead actor/performer to periodically evaluate and enhance the narration and musical accompaniment of the hospitality venues.
  • Periodically evaluate customer flow on the excursion and Christmas trains.  Work to ensure smooth and efficient movement of our guests, enhancing their overall experience.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure outstanding service quality and compliance with health/safety standards, industry regulations and brand guidelines.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or related field.
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in hospitality management, preferably within the tourism industry.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Creative, imaginative, and visionary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
