The stockings were hung, the reindeer were adorned with bells, Santa was jolly and our Christmas Train was fueled with cocoa and ready to head to the North Pole. Sadly, however, due to the state lockdown related to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Mount Hood Christmas Train has been cancelled this year.
We are very sorry about this development and we’re heartbroken. We’ve been running our Christmas Train every year for 16 years and it has always brought us joy to be able to bring Christmas magic to thousands of children and families each year. We are offering two options to passengers who have purchased tickets to this event. The first is a full refund. The second is an opportunity to get some extra value while at the same time helping the Mt. Hood Railroad to weather the financial impact of the pandemic. If you choose to forego a refund now, we are offering Double Value Credit for any rides in 2021, including our 2021 Christmas Train!
As many of you know, we are a small, locally run railroad and one of only a handful of historic passenger rail lines in the country. The Mt. Hood Railroad is 115 years old, and while we do run freight, the passenger runs are the lifeblood of the railroad. As you can imagine, the pandemic has impacted us pretty hard, and losing our flagship passenger event is especially difficult.
With the second option, if the value of your tickets was $100, we will give you $200 worth of rides to the end of 2021. This includes our breathtaking excursion runs throughout the year, where you’ll enjoy the spring blossoms, summer leaves and fall colors of the beautiful Hood River Valley.

Again, we are deeply sorry and saddened we can’t take passengers to the North Pole to meet Santa this Christmas for the first time since 2005. We are happy to provide a full refund for your tickets, but we hope some will take advantage of our Double Value Credit and get twice the train rides for the money!
